A good but not great late Universal monster movie. Pretty atmospheric and very good expressionist style cinematography but let down by a weaker storyline and no real central character. There isn't nearly enough of Lon Chaney Jr in this either! I also get the impression that Univeral were really struggling for new ideas here! Overall a bit of a hotch potch but watchable.
