Review of House of D (2004) by Janelle F — 19 Aug 2007
Look I can enjoy a film that has a heart. However there is a difference between having a film with a heart and a film that pretends to have a heart. The best example of that is House of D David Duchovny 's directorial debut.
The movie has all the typical trappings of coming of ages story. Drug addicted mother, mentally retarded friend and one black charecter to help the white kid with love and to make the film look as though it's diverse.
Anton Yelchin does his best he can with what he has and Duchovny does put love into it but it doesn't make up for the fact that all the tricks are pulled to make us feel sorry for the charecters over just trusting the actors and the screenplay resulting in a movie that lacks the nessacary human touch.
