Review of House of 9 (2005) by Dana K — 21 Dec 2009
I wasn't sure about the plot at first; it sounded way too close to Saw for my comfort level (which I haven't seen and probably won't any time soon. Blech.) And yet this had a few things different than the premise of Saw: the mastermind actually kept the original deal he made.
The movie-makers did *not* ask us to support the bad guy (or the more murderous characters, for that matter). And it showed at least a little restraint in its violence. Which makes it all the more realistic.
The acting was great, I think; the characters were all diverse and unique, and the big group scenes were fun to watch. And might I say...holy crap! That twist! Brilliant and pretty dang freaky. Overall, not the best horror movie (by far), but still pretty good.
Fun for a movie marathon, in any case!
