Review of House of 1000 Corpses (2003) by Bill S — 10 Jun 2015
Zombie is one of the most innovative, exciting and provocative horror filmmakers in the industry today and House of 1000 Corpses is not meant to be thoughtful or genius in any way, it is meant to be the kind of film that is taken with a pinch of salt, a blood-soaked, southern fried homage to everything that inspires Zombie as an artist.
The film features a sadistic serial killing family and reads of their exploits during a rainy halloween night as they unleash pure villainy against an annoying troupe of american teens. The things that happen get more and more fucked up as the film progresses and its really quite a ride.
The acting is corny as hell, even from horror veteran Karen Black and to be honest I'm not sure if the bad acting is intended or not, but it bodes well with the cheesy parts of the script and low budget sets.
It's a good film definitely.
