Review of House of 1000 Corpses (2003) by Shane M — 13 Feb 2010
An...interesting experience to say the least. its old-school exploitation film at its finest. blood, gore, people being tortured, lots of screaming and quick cutaways of creepy inverted colour shots, extra frames, different angles all that fun stuff.
its meant to be an overload for the senses and it actually somewhat works. I did on occasion find myself intrigued by the disturbingly disturbing tone of the film. it's over the top and it's well aware of it.
the plot is quite incomprehensible with absolutely no character development or exposition of any kind. its cheap thrills from the mind of a twisted filmmaker. makes you feel sick at some parts, in a somewhat enticing way.
its the depths of human depravity and weirdness mixed with cheesy horror cliches. alright to see once, maybe i'll watch it next year on halloween...but probably not.
