Review of House of 1000 Corpses (2003) by Kyle S — 08 Apr 2010
It's like Rob Zombie loves everything that I love about cinema. He's a man truly after the heart of what makes horror so great. House is a gory, harrowing, deliberately B-grade sleazefest with an incredible sense of humor.
It appeals to that same place deep down that a Led Zeppelin record does: it's loud, dark, grimy, it "borrows" heavily, it smirks right in your face as it does its bidding, and once you experience it, one way or another, you're changed.
It is, without doubt, my favorite horror film, because it combines hundreds of little horror intangibles for a film whose elements I can cohesively describe in explaining my enjoyment.
