Good: Gory, weirdest movie I have ever seen, some nostalgia and hints for us horror fans, Captain Spaulding, I can really tell this is a '70s throwback just by watching it, many recognizable actors, Sheri Moon Zombie, very shocking.

Bad: Really nothing happens with the plot, characters aren't complex.

This is the first Rob Zombie film I have ever watched in full, and I got what I expected from the movie. This is not the next great film with a twisting plot, complex characters, and a life changing metaphorical meaning. This is a shocking, grind-house movie that is a throwback to the '70s era of slashers like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is the weirdest, and bloodiest horror movie I have seen yet. The characters are all extremely odd, and there are torture scenes although they are not horribly disturbed like certain others coughhumancentipede. That said, there are still gory and disturbing scenes that will shock the mind. There were a good amount of actors in the movie that are recognizable, but not extremely famous, which makes you do that game of "Oh man who is that person!" Captain Spaulding really stuck out to me as a great character. He is funny, unique. One of the more memorable villains I've seen so far as I traverse the world of horror. Finally, Sheri Moon Zombie is a complete babe, and there are moments where different areas of her body are shown partially nude. On the other hand, there is little done with the plot. There wasn't much with it that made it all that clever. Along with that the characters are not complex either, and really just do the basics of what they must, which is be evil and shocking. So overall, a film that is shocking and gory but does not rise above the 3-31/2 star mark. Maybe it takes time to get into, but upon first view it wasn't anything amazing. The sequel is much better.
