Review of House of 1000 Corpses (2003) by Joe C — 08 May 2015
In all my years I have never seen a movie so overwhelmingly evil, or a movie with such gleeful disdain for your comfort zone. But that's what we get for giving Rob Zombie a movie camera. House of 1000 Corpses is a smorgasbord of horror movie lore and mindbending camerawork.
Split screens, randomly spliced flashbacks, negative colors and rock and roll music add a WTF atmosphere that harkens the Giallo horror movies of the 60s and 70s . Think Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Dario Argento meets Quentin Tarantino meets LSD and you're almost there.
It's not as gory as you'd think, but it's how the tone and texture makes you feel; violated, terrified.
