Review of House Hunting (2013) by David D — 18 Jul 2013
Worst movie I've seen so far this year. Which is a shame, because it had serious potential. It could be a three- or even four-star movie if not for:
-It was incredibly predictable. I guessed every aspect of the ending in the first half hour. And not just the ending--you'll see every plot device coming a mile away.
-Every major scene relied on a series of absolutely ridiculous coincidences.
-Similar to the coincidences, the characters are incredibly stupid and unbelievable. I don't want to spoil everything, but there are so many things that anyone with the slightest bit of common sense would have done to get out of their situation, and the movie doesn't even try to explain why these people don't.
-Along the lines of its being predictable, the movie is so in your face with everything it's painful to watch. It's really pandering and allows for no ambiguity. They give you so many clues about everything that any moron would know what's going on, and then they still have to go that extra step further and state the obvious. Again, it's tough to describe without spoilers, but trust me: it's like the producers thought they were making a movie for not-too-bright kindergarteners.
