Review of House at the End of the Street (2012) by Daniel E — 18 Jan 2013
One of those movies where the writing is both the problem and the solution. The storyline's plot twists are engrossing and are sure to provide a change-up from the usual let's-murder-everyone-in-town-or-make-morons-out-of-teenagers scenario, but the actors aren't given lines in the script to give enough depth to the characters, just to provide context for the story.
It's sad, because it's not the actors' fault; Jennifer Lawrence is as bluntly commanding as ever, and Max Thieriot was very shocking. It's just disappointing because you know the writers had to trade off between a good plot and a sound script.
I'd see it with a couple of friends (and I have), but only because if you don't, you might regret spending a couple hours alone watching a sub-par film instead of doing something a little more worthwhile in the world.
