Review of House at the End of the Street (2012) by Dan C — 07 Feb 2013
House at the End of the Street plays out like an episode of Criminal Minds. I kept thinking that the entire time. I knew there would be a twist, I knew that Tyler was psychologically damaged. There were really no big surprises in this film.
It kind of went through the motions and there were times where I was bored with it. Jennifer Lawrence plays Elissa, a teenager who moves next door to another teenage boy who lives alone in a house. His parents were both murdered in the house, so the rest of townsfolk think Tyler is a freak.
Elissa tries to build a relationship with Tyler after he offers her a ride home. Their relationship builds and Elissa learns more about Tyler. Typical, predictable fare. Elisabeth Shue plays Sarah, Elissa's mom. They have a strained relationship, but bond closer with the events that happen. Another predictable turn.
Even the title has nothing to do with the movie. It's called House at the End of the Street, but the movie is more about Tyler than the house. Pretty disappointing.
