Review of House at the End of the Street (2012) by Troy K — 22 Jun 2013
So I'll start my review of this by pointing out that the Critics shit all over this movie, and I am not quite sure why. While not an award winner by any means I thought this was an above-average movie with a cool twist that you don't get the full reveal of until the very end of the movie.
The cast of the movie was actually pretty good, with three people I really like, Jennifer Lawrence is as good as always in this movie, and I totally loved Elisabeth Shue as her overworked yet well-meaning mother, Max Theriot (best known or his work on the amazing A&E TV Show "Bates Motel) does a good job of playing the dark brooding weird kid with a sympathetic back story.
I think that one of the reasons everyone has such a problem with this movie may be the fact that it was marketed totally wrong, when you see the trailer it seems to be almost a straight up slasher-style horror movie. However, the movie is actually more of a Hitchcock style thriller for the current generation.
My only complaint was that the movie started a little slow, at first you don't really find out why the story is being sat in motion but once the pieces start to fall into place it becomes a lot better.
While the movie isn't going to be a life changer, I totally recommend giving it a look (it's available on Netflix Streaming) and having fun with it.
