Review of House at the End of the Street (2012) by Jon P — 29 Apr 2014
Suffering from shallow storytelling, strained performances and a fleeting uncertainty of direction, Mark Tonderai's confused teen horror is exasperating from start to finish.
Swooping cinematography and sweet visual stylistics keep things looking slick and Tonderai has plenty of fun playing with traditional horror tropes.
However, the narrative haze between teen romance, small town drama and shlocky horror obscures all potential; no direction delved into or developed enough to draw attention away from the endless predictabilities, continuity slips and dreadful direlogue that anchor the script. Even Jennifer Lawrence looks embarrassed here.
