Review of Hours (2013) by Roxanne R — 15 Oct 2014
If there is one film I want to remember Paul Walker by, it is this one. The film kept me on pins and needles and I shed tears. Director AND writer Eric Heisserer wrote a script that will pull on your heartstrings.
Nolan Hayes (Paul Walker) arrives to the ER of a New Orleans hospital with his pregnant wife Abigail (Genesis Rodriguez) during the start of hurricane Katrina. Sadly Abigail dies during childbirth but their daughter is born too soon so she is placed on a ventilator.
He is told to await transfer by ambulance since Katrina ravages the hospital and the power goes off. The plot continues from there but suffice it to say that the most agonizing minutes of a father's life were spent by Nolan Hayes.
As a viewer I felt his pain, his desperation, his anguish, this is a strong film. It is incredible what the human body can do during anxiety/stress in order to protect a child. As critic Bilge Ebiri said: "While uneven, the film is uniquely involving - right down to a final shot that will break your heart into a million pieces.
" Powerful statement of human resilience! RECOMMENDED AND AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX INSTANT STREAMING.
