Review of Hour of the Wolf (1968) by Rod A — 21 Jun 2009
Von Sydow broods through this film. He feels himself coming apart. Demons haunt him. Insanity awaits. Because this film is so extreme, I had difficulty being caught up in the human drama as I was with Persona or Winter Light.
This one is quite violent and almost Felliniesque in its presentation of fantasy. It is interesting to see Bergman try a different technique, but this film didn't reach me in the way that his other work has.
