Review of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018) by Sam L — 30 Jul 2018
If you are a fan of the previous Hotel Transylvania films, then you will most likely have a good time with this film, if you aren't a fan, then save your money. Hotel Transylvania: A Monster Vacation is another dull C- animated kids film filled to the brim with visual gags, potty jokes and adult humor, all of which never seem to stick as well as the film thinks they do.
A problem I've always had with these films is Sandler's Dracula and his relationship with his daughter, Mavis. In the first film Dracula attempts to stop his daughter from ever leaving him by showing all humans as evil creatures who hate all monsters, which we learned from the end isn't the truth. So Dracula apologized and I was willing to let it slide, 'Whatever, it's just another mediocre kids film' I remember thinking, but then Hotel Transylvania 2 was released and Dracula again didn't respect his daughter at all as he went behind her back, trying to prove his grandson Dennis is vampire. It turns out he is but that doesn't mean what Dracula did was right, at that point I knew with certainty Dracula was a horrible parent. So does Hotel Transylvania: A Monster Vacation go against this tradition of Dracula of being selfish and attempting to give his daughter some kind of panic attack or mental damage? No. Dracula is just as bad of a parent as he was in the previous two films and maybe worse, he is terrible. I can't get into what he does as that would be going into spoiler but i'll just say that he once again goes behind her back and once again she is correct. Don't watch this film, save your brain cells, please.
