Review of Hotel Transylvania (2012) by Michael J — 02 Aug 2013
"Hotel Transylvania" had little depth, had lazy animation, gave the children what they wanted but not what they deserved. All that aside, I actually had loads of fun watching this silly film.
Its your usual overprotective father story with a twist- the father is a vampire! The voice acting is adequate for the film since it is funny, but shows little effort except for Adam Sandler who really shows his vocal range.
The character and setting animation is sloppy, but the movement animation is slick and captivating. The story is filled with cliches, its entirely predictable, but its entertaining and has heart. The dialogue is filled with modern jokes that sometimes feel out of place yet almost always make us laugh.
Not much research was done on the myths surrounding Dracula such as vampire's don't age yet we see Dracula's daughter grow. The music is that mainstream pop garbage which will please most children and suits the movie.
"Hotel Transylvania" can be summed up as the film that accomplishes its goal perfectly albeit lowering the bar.
