Review of Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015) by Maksim B — 10 Jan 2016

A delightfully funny, corny, colorful and entertaining sequel, Hotel Transylvania 2 is not only a most welcome build-up of a funny animated franchise, but also a most welcome slight improvement of it! Engaging and ridiculous, the animation is fueled by the love of people for horror characters which this time are pretty much down-to-earth and quite amusing. The one-dimensional story is compensated by the charm of Dracula and Co. and the entertainment for both adults and kids is guaranteed.

The story continues some months after the end of the original cartoon. When Mavis (Selena Gomez) gives birth to a boy, Grandpa Dracula is more than excited about his young soon-to-be-vampire grandchild. Unfortunately, his ambition to take care of a young, healthy and strong vampire faces an over-protective mother and an insecure father. This leads to the bottom-line of the story which is meant to emphasize on family roots and traditional family values.

As already mentioned, the story is quite simple, but thanks to the wonderful voice cast of Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, David Spade and the loads of corny jokes, Genndy Tartakovsky's second full-length animation turns out to be the funniest cartoon of autumn 2015. It will not have the long-lasting emotional effect of some classic animations, but it would make you laugh from the bottom of your heart and this is would definitely make you feel pleased with what you would have seen.
