Review of Hotel Artemis (2018) by Nat L — 16 Jun 2018
I'm only giving this film two stars because of the solid casting. I walked in expecting to be underwhelmed by bad writing, but rewarded with an terrific showdown. Let me tell you - it did not happen. With such a kick ass premise I was expecting a showdown along the lines of Old Boy or Equilibrium. Instead, what we get is a sequence of missed opportunities and absolutely Idiotic writing. I know the film was looking for a B movie-esque feel, but intentional or not, my 14 year old self could of written a better script.
Outside of that, Jodie Foster gave in a terrific performance as nurse Thomas and Jeff Goldblum is as weird and funny as always. Sterling K. Brown was serviceable but looked like even he wasn't buying this script. What can I say about Charlie Day? This film had him testing out his character acting chops as low life weapons dealer, and boy was it bad. Charlie Day should stick being Charlie Day and Hotel Artimes should stick to it's wanna be b-movie roots instead of trying to be too many things at once.
