Review of Hotel Artemis (2018) by Giorgio G — 20 Sep 2018
WOOOW! What a flick!!! It's violent, it's brutal, it's crude, it's dark, but for the not so squeamish among us this is one to remember! All actors are really at their best (except Zachary Quinto who is often lousy), with Jodie Foster giving her deepest performance since her Silence of the Lambs.
Her makeup surely helps to transform her into that character, but it's her perfect acting which makes her role believable. It's a weird apocalyptic story of criminals at their darkest, thrown together in a place which might have been invented by Wim Wenders.
The direction, camera, sound, etc. is all tuned to the finest orchestration for us to become part of a fictional(?) world far from our own reality. ... Strangely enough this movie hadn't been promoted at all here in Brazil and while some movies have their trailers thrown onto us 6 or 12 months ahead of release, I hadn't seen a single trailer of this one before.
I only discovered it yesterday in this week's movie guide and well, not been known to anybody it was no surprise that, though on a Friday evening, the cinema was nearly empty. but this movie really deserves full houses and I give it 8/10 points.
