Review of Hot Under the Collar (1992) by Mr. B — 08 Dec 2013
This is a sequel to the 1991 movie 'Virgin High'. Never saw it, but I might have to now after watching this silly B movie.
Jerry and Monica are a couple, but haven't had sex yet. Jerry has mastered the art of hypnosis while Monica is secretly devoted to the lord. One night he hypnotizes Monica to make mad passionate love to him, but it backfires when she notices a "sign" from God. It interrupts the coitus (Thanks Jesus!) and before you know it Monica takes off to a Convent. Somewhere in her subconscious while under hypnosis triggered this extreme devotion to the lord to make herself run off to the Blessed Virgin Convent.
The Blessed Virgin Convent is exactly how it sounds. Full of beautiful virgins who haven't been plucked, prodded or probed. It's being ran by Sister Flavia played by cult actress Velvet Rhodes. Jerry's desperate attempt to get his beloved girlfriend out from the lord's trance (as well as the one he put her under) turns into a challenge when he finds himself having to help out a handyman with a seedy past.
The handyman stole some diamonds and it pissed off some mobsters. So two dimwits keep watch while they send in their hot undercover, Rowena into the convent as Sister Tiffany. Tane McClure plays Sister Tiffany. She shows off the goods to the handyman about 30 mins in. She spends much of the movie in bed with the handyman. She's trying to plug him for information on where the stolen diamonds are. She plugs hard. God Bless Her! There's even a sweet Christian interlude devoted to the life of being in a convent. Let's just say it's a real bitch when you're in one. Pray and Meditate and to not think about sex. Or in the case of the Blessed Virgin, men.
There's even a cameo appearance by Burt Ward who played Robin with Adam West in the 1966 tv series 'Batman'. He doesn't play Robin, but the Pope here. The incredibly gorgeous and cute Melinda Clarke plays Monica and Richard Gabai who not only stars as Jerry, but also directed and wrote the film.
This is a pretty dumb movie, but that's the point. It's based solely on puns and innuendos. In fact, the humor here could be easily likened to a Disney movie. A late night Disney movie that is.
