Review of Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) by Genevieve R — 06 Aug 2013
Some funny jokes and gags, especially the hilarious dick-sucking scene. I also really enjoyed the scene where Nick was cheating on his wife and crying in the bathtub. Most movies make cheating look glamorous, but this movie makes it look almost painful.
They could have done more with Jacob in terms of a journey for his character. Everyone else gets a wonderful resolution to their problem and grows as a character except Jacob, who seems to be the voice of reason throughout the movie (they didn't really give him any issues to deal with except for his lack of a life, which was never resolved).
Most of the movie was really cheesy and you had to really suspend your disbelief. They definitely ripped off Back to the Future with the scene with Nick's band and "Let's Get it Started.".
Also, what is their deal with hyphenated names? The underlying sexism of that entire gag really bothered me. Why does it bother men so much to share last names instead of having the woman give up part of her identity?
It was kind of funny, but definitely not a memorable comedy in the least.
