Review of Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) by Mike S — 20 Jul 2014
The whole premise is in the title. Three middle-aged friends and a young-adult nephew end up travelling, via hot tub time machine, from 2010 to 1986 to a ski resort where they partied when they were teenagers.
Appearing to everyone else as their teenaged selves, they must repair the hot tub to get back to the present and try to make better decisions on a fateful night in their lives. It's a very self-aware variation on "Back to the Future" (even going so far as to feature that film's Crispin Glover in a supporting role) that started weakly but got better.
It's funny enough, without being completely stupid. It doesn't make much sense, but it moves along well and has just enough sentiment to not go completely off the rails.
