Review of Hot Rod (1950) by Patrick S — 10 Jun 2010
I enjoyed it for a while, but eventually it lost momentum and became desperate for laughs, relying on repetitve jokes and tedious physical humour which I thought was pedestrian and boring. The cast try their best, and I think Andy Samberg is an entertaining screen presence, but he is not enough to save the movie from collapsing into obvious jokes within a predictably zany plot.
Maybe the film was meant to be dumb and knowingly offbeat, but I remain unconvinced.
