Review of Hot Pursuit (2015) by Leo G — 05 May 2015
A comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Sophia Vergara, two extremely talented (or at least enjoyable) actresses in the same movie? What could go wrong? Turns out, this film is a career low for both of them.
I went into this film not interested whatsoever, but I was optimistic. Never has a film had me sit there the entire time, wondering when a joke was finally going to hit, and then walk out thinking the exact same thing.
It is no exaggeration in saying that this film did not helm a single joke the entire way through, and even when it did, it was so contrived and by-the-numbers that I just did not care enough to laugh.
This is your typical on-the-run buddy comedy between a cop and a fugitive, and the rest of the plot details are not necessary, because you know exactly what to expect. The plot twists are so predictable that I did not even see them coming, because it was the worst possible direction for the movie to go, but it did it anyways.
These actresses just wanted a paycheque and it really shows in the final product. Lifeless dialogue, stock cinematography, and wooden direction, "Hot Pursuit" screams mediocrity, and at it's lowest stature.
This film is atrocious beyond belief. I enjoyed my popcorn though!
