Laughs are scarce in this shrill, buddy road trip farce set in Texas, starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara. Both of these ladies have great comic gifts, but they're seldom to be found here. Instead they're left to go through the strenuous motions in this cliched mess.

I almost don't even want to bother critiquing. Hot Pursuit is more in need of the type of analysis that figures out just how the hell this thing got made to begin with. Misdirected by Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip) from a horrendously trite script by tv writers David Feeney (New Girl) and John Quaintance (Undateable), Hot Pursuit is a putrid stink of a movie unleashed on unsuspecting audiences. As much as I like Witherspoon and Vergara, these two stars also serve as producers for this unfunny swill. Witherspoon is Copper, a by-the-book San Antonio cop charged with getting Daniella (Vergara), the wife of a drug dealer, to Dallas so that she can testify against even bigger bad guys than her husband. The supposed fun is meant to generate from watching these two, tightwad Cooper and drop dead gorgeous Daniella, one-up one another. It's all so so so stupid and painfully devoid of anything resembling funny. Hot Pursuit is a massive hot mess.
