Review of Hot Girls Wanted (2015) by Dillinger P — 30 May 2015
An extremely hot topic at the moment, in terms of debate, is the sexual objectivity of women, how media, fashion and music, among others, depict women as sexual objects, rather than you know, a normal human being.
It's easy to see the fire that burns inside this arguement and Hot Girls Wanted, doesnt exactly pour a bucket of petrol over the fire, more just opens it up a little. Hot Girls Wanted follows the stories of amateur porn stars, ages between 18 to 25, in specific a group of girls that live in Miami together, with their agent Riley.
We get brief insights into most of their lives, but the story that sticks out the most is definately Tressa, a 19 year old Texan, that got up in a flash, left home and wanted to make "Easy money".
Her story is the complete hook for the film, we see her struggle with family life, friendships, relationships, health issues and forcing herself to stay relevant within the industry by going more and more extreme.
Its an emotional watch, however the film does not completely attack porn. This is not a feminist bombardment of anti pornography rants and subject matter, more a look into the lives of these young girls trying to make good money by putting themselves through an extremely demanding and at times, outragous industry.
The film also has this twist, more tonally, where at the beginning you think, christ these girls are stupid, as they roll around, getting drunk, rapping about smoking weed and getting paid for having sex, however 30 minutes in, it really turns into a gut wrenching, emotional punch, that keeps on repeating.
To say I enjoyed this film would be dishonest of me, it was insightful, it had a lot to say and it does do exactly what it sets out to achieve, is it a pleasant watch, no. Will it make you stop watching porn, no.
It however gets you thinking a little more about the industry and just how demanding it is and for the stars out there that love what they do, good on them, but for the ones forced into it as an easy way to make money, its nice to finally see that side portrayed accurately and humainely.
