Review of Hot Fuzz (2007) by Jack S — 12 Sep 2013
Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost return after their success with 'Shaun of the Dead' in this passionate and ridiculously good love letter to the action/buddy-cop genre. It's so good in fact you'll probably wonder why there aren't any other movies like it after you've seen it.
Like the trio's previous film, 'Hot Fuzz' qualifies as the genre it pays homage to while also poking fun at it; but here the plot, characters, jokes and overall filmmaking techniques are far more engaging and shocking, topping 'Shaun of the Dead' as a superior film in almost every way.
Some may find it a bit long and over-exaggerated, but all that is ultimately the point in giving a nod to the overblown genre of violence, guns, blood, sweat and tears. If you haven't already, grab your fellow action junkies, have some Cornetto ice cream, and prepare to be thrown to the edge of your couch while watching this abundance of wit and brilliance.
