Review of Hot Fuzz (2007) by Ben T — 23 May 2015

Shaun of the Dead was a really tough act to follow, it was funny, entertaining and bucket loads of fun. How to do it, well having the exact same creative team was a good way to do it. Hot Fuzz is definitely my favorite movie of the cornetto trilogy.

One of the things I love about this movie is how clever it is. Shaun of the Dead was fairly clever but this movie is downright genius. There are so many things in this movie that you won't notice the first or the second time you watch it, it's so brilliant.

This film has an amazing British ensemble cast. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent, Timothy Dalton, Paddy Considine, Ralph Spall, Olivia Coleman, Bill Nighy, Martin Freeman, Steve Coogan and many many more.

This film also has some fantastic humour, it's pretty much non stop laughs. I also love how we actually see that whenever they make an arrest we see them all doing a lot of paper work which is what actually happens.

Simon Pegg is great as Nicholas Angel, he's a little bit hard to relate to but he's a great character. However Nick Frost as Danny is fantastic, he's really funny and like able he also has a lot of conflict and a sad backstory.

Just about everything in this movie works, the pacing is phenomenal, the music and sound editing is flawless it just all works. I also love the character played by Rory McCann or the Hound from Game of Thrones.

The final half an hour is one fantastic end action sequence. I love how we get plenty of violent injuries but no actual deaths. It's a great mix of Nicolas type of good cop who tries not to kill and follows the rules and Danny who wants to fire guns while jumping through the air and get in car chases and fire loads of guns.

This is nearly a perfect film, it's one of the best comedies ever and it's really rewatchable. A+.
