Review of Hot Dog... The Movie (1984) by Rob N — 19 Jan 2009
This was a highly unappreciated movie from the 80s and quite possibly the greatest skiing movie of all time, but only because I don't consider Better Off Dead to be a skiing movie. It's a relationship movie.
Hot Dog: The Movie is a coming of age tale involving some bumpkin who wants to be a great freestyle ski jumper and gets mentored by an older drunk. And picks up some hot blond floozy who can't act.
There's also a secondary plot of the good American skiers who are battling for control of the freestyle skiing competitions against evil European (yes, evil and European is redundant) which leads to the climactic finale where they fight it out with the Chinese Downhill.
Skiing, drinking and beating Eurotrash. What more could you ask for in a movie? Oh, and Shannon Tweed is in it so there is female nudity galore.
