Warning: bring extra tissues. This movie snuck up on me and surprised me with its very core story of the willingness of the human spirit to survive together and build respect and admiration regardless of cultural diversity. Wes Studi delivers the performance of his career as Chief Yellow Hawk, dying of cancer and longing to journey home to Montana. As always, Christian Bale delivers a mesmerizing performance as Army Captain Joseph Blocker, a legendary war veteran who is begrudgingly tasked with the responsibility of escorting Chief Yellow Hawk and his family home to Montana through treacherous Comanche territory and hostile white camps. Rosamund Pike, Ben Foster, and Adam Beach provide performances that enhance this human experience.

If you are looking for a movie that doesn't fit the usual fare, this is a very refreshing escape. No superheroes, magic hammers, or fantasy experience here. Hostiles delivers a human experience that reminds us that though we are different, we are the same.
