Review of Hostiles (2017) by Chip R — 03 Jun 2018
A scenic film where the cinematography puts you at ease, while the plot tries to be as brutal and depressing as possible. This normally wouldn't be an issue, but there are plenty of times where you might mentally throw up your hands and say 'that was just for shock value, not for the plot' and leads you to guessing exactly what will happen in every upcoming scene. There is a message at the beginning of the film that the director seemingly tries so hard to stick to, that it weighs down the film from to keep it what it could have been.
The only pluses for this film are the scenery and the very last scene which is beautiful and keeps Hostiles from leaving a bad taste in your mouth.
