Review of Hostel: Part III (2011) by Dylan N — 25 Dec 2011
Hostel was built on a fairly simple foundation: brutally fuck shit up and disturb the balls out of people and, ultimately, became one of the founders of "torture porn".
Hostel 2 cared much more about elaborate gory make up than thrills.
Hostel 3? Well Hostel 3 is Hostel 1 all over again... but in Las Vegas. Go figure. Imagine the Hangover but, in this case, everyone ends up a victim of sick rich people bingo. Don't get me wrong, the idea as a whole, has a lot of promise but, ultimately, the movie is drug down by so much melodrama and personal relationships that the shock and awe is nowhere to be found.
Whenever a death is actually eminent, you hardly witness it. There's nothing to disturb you or make you shudder. It basically feels like a half-assed pg-13 version of the original; only this time it's written by that goober who created Dawson's Creek.
This is a perfect example of why the horror genre is slipping back into the realm of "no one gives a crap". Steer clear.
