Review of Hostel: Part II (2007) by Alex S — 18 Aug 2011
Really interesting horror. Touches a dark place in the psyche. Commoditisation of the kind of barbarism humans have inflicted on humans since the dawn of time. Like the Milgram Experiment as a Red Letter Day.
I think that's what makes this film. The bad guys aren't fantasy evil. They're morally corrupt. They've lost their moral compass. I think that's where the horror of this film is - with most horror films you empathise with the prey. In this, you can almost empathise with the predator too.
As the final credits role, the moral of the story is that morals are flexible where money is involved.
That's sick.
