Review of Hostel: Part II (2007) by Jose M — 15 Nov 2011
Hostel Part II comes next with Eli Roth following the rule of the slasher. You kill off the survivor and you bring in suckers for part II. Hostel Part II comes to us with a three American girls during an embarking trip to Europe.
You know what that means! Torture time, the first Hostel really worked well while this one, not so much. This one has girls being tortured with a clever twist, great ending, some humor, and an attempt to the understanding culture and beauty of Slovakia; an attempt to amend the controversy caused by the first one.
The problem is that I have seen this before, ha, ha, Hostel, and I wanted focus on the characters. Roth could have devoted a little bit time to the characters, but he does not, and I never really do get to know them or care about them.
Still, Hostel Part II has what it takes to be a good film, but it is disappointing because of a lot of the charm is gone. Note I was surprised by the response I got about it from female audiences. Before, a lot of girls including the ones that hate horror films, told me this film was pretty good or that they liked it.
I had an idea why which leads to the pretty funny ending, talking about Roger Bart's character Stuart.
