Review of Hostel (2011) by Aaron C — 05 Aug 2010
I've seen this a few times in recent years and have grown fond of it as a piece of modern exploitation cinema. It's a strong film, and one that worked well obviously in that it revolted audiences and created a genre all on its own and sparked discussion on how far films are willing to go.
It's a pitch black product of the depressed age we're living in and one of those films that always comes out in response to war and societal collapse. It has a transcending quality about it that leads one to think of morality, human nature, and what man is capable of.
