Review of Hostel (2011) by Tim D — 09 Jul 2012
Since Saw did well, Eli Roth gives torture flicks a chance? Roth has potential, but he hasn't reached it yet. There was way too much sex and nudity in the first portion of the movie with nothing of value.
When it finally gets to the part you want (torture), it's done poorly. The cutting of the toe, the moment I was waiting for, was edited the same way as the trailer. I felt cheated. Then a woman decides, after surviving this ordeal, that she doesn't wanna live anymore (due to a horrible disfigurement) and throws herself in front of a train? How random.
Boy, it was funny to watch someone struggle to pick up his own severed fingers off the floor with the hand that the fingers came from.
