Scares: 3/5.
Makeup: 5/5.

Overall: 26/40 = 3.25/5 = 3/5.
Hostel's social commentary may feel slightly muted in relation to Eli Roth's and Quentin Tarantino's previous efforts, and its plot and cast are somewhat less interesting than previous 'torture-porn' films like Saw, but a creepy performance from Jan Vlasák and a good amount of gory makeup just about saves it...not as scary or gory as hyped, though.
