Review of Hostel (2006) by Keenan S — 04 Nov 2012
Hostel is okay, but I wish there was a lot more to it. There's plenty of gruesome violence, sex, and nudity, but this film sometimes feels amateurish and that it was written by an angst-ridden teenager who could have used more time to polish the very uneven script.
Also, this film isn't nearly as batshit insane as it should have been to elevate it above its problems, like say, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (Which I love, even though many hate it). In short, this film could have used more energy and embraced its goofiness, rather than trying to be a dead serious film, because it doesn't exactly work as a serious film.
