Review of Hostage (2005) by Tom W — 05 May 2008
I could not imagine anyone else in the lead of Hostage other than Bruce Willis. He was made for the role, and for this film, with it's obvious cliches and nice bit of hostage situation tension.
A good thing about this film is that the story is very well thought out, involving the family being held along with his own family, with both situatuations twinning together is a very exciting touch. The fire and actions scenes were good and there was a nice bit of tension in some parts of the film, expecially with the brother and sister being chased in the air vent. However, air vents bring me on to the next topic matter of this movie that wasn't so impressive. The film was full of cliches from the air vents, to the money, swat teams, and just bruce willis in general. considering he has been in so many films like this you tend to think "have I seen this all before". he also didn't get involved in as much action as you would have expected for the man who played diehard, but I guess thats the aging process for you.
Overall I thought this was a well made and quite engaging film, with some lulls here and there and jam packed with cliches, but still a worthwhile watch, if anything just to see bruce willis at what he does best!
