Review of Hostage (2005) by Dan B — 15 Nov 2008
Preposterous action thriller with a grim undertone, but entertaining enough thanks to Siri's stylish direction and Ben Foster's creepy sociopath, who invests his character with hints of more depth than the material really warrants.
The other outstanding performance is by the house itself - a fantastic piece of modern architecture that makes the film come across like an episode of Grand Designs with added gunplay and explosions. (Which actually sounds like a pretty cool idea.
) Not must see by any stretch of the imagination, but fine to catch on TV if you have nothing better to do. Although if you really do have NOTHING better to do (as was clearly my case) then it may be time to seriously reevaluate your life choices.
