Review of Hostage (2005) by Monsieur R — 29 Aug 2010
Another "Willis takes on the world" film.. somewhat formula and yet watchable film about 3 young punks who terroize a corrupt accountant and family. Don't be fooled by the dad accountant, he is by film's end, the boss.
The unlikely hero is a 7 year old sneaking through endless ductwork big enough to easily hold an adult. This much is unbeilivable, yet the movie hangs on our believing a house can have huge ductwork. The dad seems to have a hobby of copying dvd's, but you find out he is doing dirty work for the mob. As unassuming as he is, he changes colors by the very end of the film.
If Willis left a big city career to leave for a rocking chair job in a one horse town, he gets a jolt into realty by these 2 of 3 weirdos, one is actually sane, but the other two are wacked out and have tremendous jealousy for wealth people. So much so they see the dad's cadillac SUV and his daughter and freak out on a mission to follow them home to the dad's fortress of security.
The security is highly unlikely, but serves to keep the police out, up to a point, when Willis gets fed up with county officers. He also has his own family being held hostage in a separate plot of sorts by the dad's accomplises.
If you think fairtales come true, you will believe this film. Lots of people to dispise and few to admire, this film will keep you glued to the set, but remember it tomorrow? Maybe.
Give it a watch and see what YOU think. This film is all about Willis.
