Review of Horse Feathers (1932) by Vincent H — 23 Sep 2009
Oh, the zany Marx Brothers! I can pretty much watch them cause trouble anywhere in any situation. This is not one of my favorites though, partly because I'm not interested in the world of college football.
The plot is pretty thin as is the case with most of their early films. Zeppo is sort of a throwaway here as Groucho's son. And I don't think Chico and Harpo are quite as mischievous as they are in other films.
But I love how absurd they are and oftentimes the straight men and women around them sort of ignore their antics because really, what else can they do? I love the opening scene when Groucho sings to the school board, but the rest of the film doesn't fully hold my attention like Duck Soup or Animal Crackers.
That being said, I still love these guys!!!
