Review of Horrible Bosses (2011) by David F — 31 Aug 2012

This isn't subtle comedy and it's not even very original (the film has fun name-checking 'Strangers on a Train' and 'Throw Momma from the Trains', both better films) but the characters are so over-the-top (especially the bossess) that you can't help enjoy the whole thing.

Out of all of the bosses Spacey gets the most screen time and he is simply repeating his 'Swimming with Sharks' performance here but he still shines head and shoulders over everyone else. Farrell is a bit under-served by the script as he doesn't really get enough screen time to register.

Aniston doesn't really look comfortable in her role as a maneater but it's fun watching her play someone so un-'Friends'. Bateman, Dale and Sudeikis are likeable in their roles which makes the film work and there are some fun cameos from Foxx, Grufford and Sutherland.

Not a classic but enjoyable if you like low-brow comedy.
