Review of Horrible Bosses (2011) by Wade G — 23 Apr 2013
This movies strengths lie predominantly in its cast, and to be fair, it's got a great cast. They assembled an ensemble of very funny people, and people who I didn't know could be very funny, and just shoved them in a room together. The high concept black comedy in the script is decent enough, but it works so well only because of the people delivering it. I love seeing Charlie Day getting more mainstream attention, and he really shines in this thing.
Its fault is that there are some aspects of it that feel a bit too much like a TV sitcom, albeit a very dark one. It doesn't seem as good as it could have been, and I feel like with any other cast it simply wouldn't have worked. Still, it's better than most recent comedies I've seen, and it gave me a good number of big laughs. The originality of the concept and the sheer insanity of Charlie Day help elevate from being an okay comedy into a good comedy, but not a great comedy. It may not be revolutionary, but it can be very funny, and the pairing of the three leads is a comedy dream team worth witnessing.
