Review of Horrible Bosses 2 (2014) by Shin B — 15 Jan 2015
I found this movie to be pretty entertaining. If you want something a bit more serious like an old school Adam Sandler movie then you in for a disappointment. However if you are in the mood for a really good slapstick style movie then you will get your monies worth. I noticed reviews saying that it was "flat" "predictable" "didn't live up to its predecessor". Well yes it may have been predictable (I mean you can figure out the plot by looking at the cover.), it didn't have a thick plot. However slapstick doesn't need a thick plot.
The people going to view this movie have to have a great sense of humor. The jokes were put out there to be obvious not tongue in cheek. The humor was very similar to The Three Stooges, whom of which I love.
Don't expect the trio to have deeper personalities in the sequel. They were lovable in the first and had a lot of potential for more jokes. That was the main goal for the humor. The movie did stay true to its title as well. Not in the same way as their previous bosses, but they were themselves "Horrible Bosses [too]".
Lastly sequels are definitely hard too pull off especially comedy sequels. Look at Grown ups 1 and 2, as well as 21 Jump Street and its sequel (although it had some funny 4th wall breaks I found funny). In my opinion one of the best comedy sequels I have seen in years.
Overall you need to appreciate the movie for what it is. Slap stick. Definitely a movie to see with a group of friends. Just go in with a good sense of humor and some perspective.
