Review of Horrible Bosses 2 (2014) by James R — 13 Jul 2015

A sequel to a movie that really didn't need a sequel. The original film Horrible Bosses (2011) was actually really funny and back when I saw it I enjoyed it a bunch. 3 years later and we are still following best friends Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis), and Dale (Charlie Day).

They've quit the jobs they oh so hated in the first film (and which almost lead them to murger!) and have invented a shower device called the Shower Buddy. Rich business mogul Bert Hanson (Christoph Waltz) decides to buy 100,000 units from them.

The guys get super excited, but soon learn after they invest all their money that Bert played them and has no intention of buying their product, but buying out their now bankrupt business. So the guys not learning from past mistakes decide to kidnap Bert's spoiled son Rex (Chris Pine) and hold him for a ransom.

Things take a turn when it turns out Rex wants in on their plan. The movie also features some other familiar faces from the first films in much smaller roles. Kevin Spacey returns as Dave Harken this time in only a few scenes, Jennifer Aniston comes back as Dr.

Julia Harris the sex fiend from the first film and of course Jamie Foxx is MF Jones. Overall, the movie still made me laugh. The three main leads have some great chemistry and really do a great job working off of each other.

I found the plot to be super silly since its its basically the same plot as the first film: a bunch of normal joes try to become criminals are terrible at it. The inclusion of Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Aniston are absolutely wasted.

They rehash the same old laughs from the first film and it just seems like they're trying too hard. Overall, as a fan of the first film I still enjoyed this one. It's not as good as the first film, but I found it has enough laughs in it to warrant at least a rental!
