Review of Horns (2013) by Amanda C — 05 Jan 2015
Horns is really good, in that sketchy, so bad it's good B horror film kind of way. That is until it submits to the logic of needed a reason and explinations. Then it really goes off the rails in the worst possible way, getting weighed down by an over abundance of mush, sentimentality and just plain ridiculousness.
Before it decend into complete anarchy, Horns is entertaining in a perverse kind of way. Daniel Radcliff and Jump Temple both give visceral and physical performances that sell the tale of death, hidden desires and of course purity and salvation.
It is a religious film for the atheist, using the familiar symbology as a fun shortcut, but avoiding preaching to the unindoctrinated. That is until the last 20 min, but hey, nothing is perfect.
