Review of Hopscotch (1980) by Kymberleigh R — 22 Dec 2008
Without a doubt, the funniest movie Walter Matthau ever made.
The script is clever and the dialogue realistic and even witty at times. Matthau plays a CIA agent which the "Company" wants to retire to a desk job but who instead leads them on a merry chase through Europe and the U.S. thwarting their often arrogant determination to prevent his publishing a "tell all" book on international intelligence operations.
I've enjoyed many of Matthau's movies, from The Odd Couple and The Front Page to Grumpy Old Men, and this one is still the one I watch the most often. If, as has been suggested, this is a movie that could never be made today, we should all be thankful it was made when it was.
