Review of Hope Springs (2012) by Carol M — 23 Sep 2012
Very difficult to watch at times. The subject matter may be too close to home for some. Marriage therapy for a couple trying to find themselves again is difficult to watch. From the beginning of the film you immediately dislike Tommy Lee Jones.
His character "Arnold" is all to familiar to everyone watching. Men will ask themselves "am I like that"? "Will I be"? You immediately are sympathetic to MAGNIFICENT Meryl Streep and are also familar with her character Kay's storyline.
These two great actors really pull you into this subject with pathos, humor and honesty. I screamed out loud at the screen a few times when Meryl and Tommy "get down" so to speak.... or try to anyway.
It is very much worth watching but again beware "who" you are seeing this film with. A lot of self reflection occurs... beware!!! Enjoy it!
